Term 2
This term at Prep we are focussing on the development of the children’s oral language and encouraging effective storytelling through traditional literature – nursery rhymes and fairy / folk tales. Each week we will be exploring a well known rhyme and story in class and providing a variety of connected learning experiences.
Rhymes and Fairy/folk tales are part of our literary heritage. The repetitive nature of children’s rhymes are important to help children learn vocabulary, intonation patterns and the rhythm of the language. Fairy tales and children's stories can provide an introduction into character development and creating simple story structure.
As the culminating activity, the children will choose a character to dress- up as and display the term’s work. The proposed day for the culminating activity is Wednesday 24 June.
Important dates for this term include:
Sports Day - 17 June
Culminating Event – Wednesday 24 June
As a culminating activity to our wonderful term two unit on Fairy Tales and Nursery rhymes, the prep children invited their parents along for a fun filled afternoon.
The parents were amazed by the children’s work on the computer reproducing a favourite nursery rhyme and drawing the pictures to accompany it.
The children had also made a castle, bridge or Cinderella’s slipper from clay and then decorated the item.
During the term the prep children participated in the 30 days of drawing program and displayed their work as well as asking their parents to also participate in a drawing activity.
The parents and children alike loved the afternoon of events and are keen to do it all again in term 3.
